Domain transfers

Your name. A new home.

Plan your domain transfer to NameUK, with your website and email in view.

This checks the transfer route. It does not start a move or check eligibility with your registrar.

  1. 1

    Check your domain

Enter your full domain above to find the UK tag or authorisation-code route. Nothing is moved or reserved by this check.

  2. 2

    Keep your services connected

Save your DNS records and nameservers. Confirm with both providers that your current website and email services will continue.

    Plan for DNSSEC
  3. 3

    Review before releasing

Confirm the registrant details, eligibility and charges. Use receiving instructions only after your incoming request is ready.

Review and track incoming UK transfers

Inbound transfers are not open in this preview. No tag change, code submission or transfer payment is taken here.

Two routes. The same care.

The process depends on your domain ending. Check the current registrar instructions before releasing your name.

.UK DOMAINS

A receiving registrar tag

.co.uk, .uk, .org.uk and .me.uk commonly move by changing the registrar tag at your current provider. Use the receiving tag shown only when your incoming request is ready.

UK transfer instructions are changing in February 2027; check the current transfer guide before moving.

GLOBAL & REGIONAL DOMAINS

An authorisation code

For .com, .net and regional endings such as .wales and .cymru, check transfer eligibility, unlock your domain and request its authorisation code.

Keep the code private until a secure transfer process is available. A regional UK ending does not necessarily use the UK tag process.

Help with a transfer

Transfer guidance reviewed 11 October 2026. Check Openprovider’s transfer instructions and Nominet’s upcoming UK transfer changes before a move.

Before you move.

A few checks to make with your current provider.

Check account access

Make sure you control the domain and can receive messages at its contact email.

Check timing and locks

Ask your current provider to confirm eligibility and any transfer lock. Allow time before expiry, and keep renewal arrangements in place until the move is confirmed.

Confirm DNS continuity

A registration transfer does not copy your website or mailbox. Confirm whether your current DNS and hosting will continue after the move.
