If a NameUK domain checkout expires, open the saved order in Orders & billing and check its current payment status before trying again. A confirmed expired unpaid checkout is closed; recheck the domain’s availability and current price before preparing a new order. If payment is pending, confirmed or unclear, keep the original reference and use the displayed status checks or contact support first. Expiry alone is not proof of a card decline.

Before you begin
- Open NameUK directly and find the original domain order.
- Read the latest payment status before opening another checkout.
- Keep the order reference and any visible error or support reference.
- If the checkout is confirmed expired and unpaid, recheck availability and price.
- If payment is uncertain or confirmed, resolve the original order before paying again.
1. An expired checkout does not explain why you stopped
A payment session can close after its allowed time passes without confirmed payment. That describes the checkout’s state, not the customer’s intention. Someone may have paused to check details, closed the page or encountered a problem earlier in the process. An expiry message alone cannot establish which happened, and should not be treated as proof that a bank rejected a card.
The practical next step is to inspect the original order. Avoid reopening several old payment tabs or making a second purchase merely to see whether it works. The same exact domain and the same intended term are easier to investigate when you preserve the first reference. If you saw an error, keep its wording and approximate time rather than replacing it with a guess about the cause.
2. Find the saved order in your NameUK account
Sign in through NameUK and open Orders & billing. Search using the domain or order reference, then choose View order. Check the full spelling and ending: an order for a .uk name is different from one for the matching .co.uk. Read the payment and domain status together, rather than relying on an old browser tab or the amount shown on a bank notification.
Use Check payment & refresh when the saved order offers it, or Refresh status otherwise. If Continue payment here is available and the order remains unpaid and open, it resumes the supported embedded payment flow for that saved order. An expired checkout does not become current simply because an old payment page still loads. Follow the options on the current order page.
3. Choose the next step from the confirmed state
For a checkout confirmed closed without payment, you can return to domain search and review a new selection. If the order still says Awaiting payment, use its available continuation or status-check controls first. If payment has been received and registration is pending or needs attention, keep the existing order and contact support where instructed; starting again is not the way to finish that registration.
If a bank entry suggests money moved but the website has not confirmed the outcome, stop before paying again. Provide support with the original reference, domain, approximate time and visible message. Do not send full card details, account passwords or sign-in codes. The discrepancy needs checking; this guide cannot determine the outcome of an individual bank entry.
On a small screen, swipe sideways to read the full table.
| Current result | Next step |
|---|---|
| Confirmed expired and unpaid | Recheck availability and prepare a new order if still wanted |
| Unpaid checkout still open | Use the available continuation or status check |
| Payment received; registration pending | Follow the existing order and any support instructions |
| Bank entry and order status disagree | Keep the reference and contact support before paying again |

4. Recheck the domain rather than trusting an old result
A domain basket is not a registry reservation. Nominet’s UK rules accept compliant applications on a first-come, first-served basis and reject an application for an identical already registered name. When returning after an expired checkout, run a current availability check. Your previous search result or closed order does not override the current registration position.
If the name is unavailable, review suitable alternatives rather than repeatedly submitting the old selection. If the availability check itself cannot complete, that is not confirmation that somebody else bought the name. Keep the displayed message and ask support if necessary. Nominet’s official lookup provides information about existing UK registrations; it is not a record of your NameUK payment.

5. A practical interrupted-purchase example
Imagine a buyer reaches payment for a new business address, leaves to confirm the intended registered owner and returns later to a closed checkout. This is a hypothetical example. They sign in, find the saved order and check its status. Once it is confirmed expired without payment, they search the exact name again, review the current term and owner details, and prepare a new purchase only if the name remains available.
The decision changes if the saved order shows payment received. In that case, the buyer follows the existing registration result rather than repeating the purchase. After registration completes, they record the domain’s expiry and arrange any website or email connection separately. A successful registration does not automatically publish a website, create a mailbox or settle the status of another order.
6. Review the price and renewal before a fresh purchase
Register .co.uk for £9.99 for one year, with annual renewal currently £9.99. Or choose a new three-year .co.uk registration for £25.99. Check the selected name and term before payment. Future renewal prices can change.
A new checkout should be a deliberate review of the domain, current price and selected term. Do not assume an old basket fixes the amount permanently. The initial three-year registration offer covers that first term; it is not a promise of the same recurring three-year renewal package. Hosting and mailbox subscriptions remain separate purchases if you need them.
NameUK is a practical option if you want a separately purchased UK domain, visible annual renewal pricing and supported dashboard DNS controls. This is our own recommendation for those needs, not an independent market ranking. Choose the name and term carefully, keep the order reference and wait for registration confirmation before promoting the address.

NameUK’s own buying guidance, reviewed 30 October 2026 against the current saved-order controls. The interrupted-purchase example is hypothetical. A browser message, bank entry and confirmed registration are different kinds of evidence.
