The quick answer

You can connect a NameUK domain to Wix using its pointing method. Add the domain to the correct Wix site, copy that site’s current DNS instructions, then update the website records at the active DNS host. Keep your existing email records. Your Wix subscription, domain renewal and email service remain separate things to manage.

Before you begin

  • A Wix site with a plan that supports connecting your own domain.
  • The exact domain name and access to its active DNS host.
  • A saved list of website and email records before editing.
  • The Wix account’s current pointing instructions for this site.

1. Choose pointing if you want to keep DNS in NameUK

Wix supports connecting a domain by nameservers or by pointing. Pointing leaves DNS hosted with your existing service and changes the records that direct visitors to Wix. This is the route described here for a domain on NameUK’s managed nameservers.

Wix generally recommends its nameserver connection because its team can then manage DNS support. It also explains that pointing can suit domains with existing records you prefer not to rebuild. Make the choice deliberately. Switching nameservers without copying email records first can interrupt your mail.

2. Add your existing domain to the right Wix site

Open Domains in your Wix account. Choose to add an existing domain, connect a domain you own and select the website it should serve. Follow the manual setup and switch to pointing instructions. Keep that screen open while you work in NameUK.

Check the site selection before editing DNS. Businesses sometimes have an old draft, a current website and a client site in the same builder account. A technically correct connection to the wrong project still produces the wrong result. Publish the intended site and check that its subscription supports a custom domain.

3. Copy the record values from your Wix dashboard

Use the hostnames, record types and destinations shown by Wix for this connection. Do not copy an IP address from someone else’s tutorial: the dashboard is the reference for your site. In NameUK, open the domain’s DNS records and compare each existing website entry with the requested one.

Check whether a record should be edited or added. A CNAME cannot share its hostname with ordinary A, AAAA, TXT or MX records. If the form identifies a conflict, inspect the conflicting record’s purpose before removing it. Keep a copy of the old destination so you have a clear change history.

Match each field before saving
FieldWhat to use
TypeThe A or CNAME type specified by Wix.
HostThe root or www hostname shown in the connection instructions.
ValueThe exact current Wix IP address or hostname.
TTLThe provider’s requested value, or a supported default if none is specified.

4. Preserve email and verification records

Change only the records needed for the Wix website. Preserve MX records for incoming email and the SPF, DKIM and DMARC entries used by your email services. Keep ownership verification tokens for other services too. Their presence does not normally stop a website connection.

When a domain connects by pointing, email DNS stays with the existing DNS host. Manage those records in NameUK if its nameservers are active. The Wix account will not become the authoritative place to edit them just because it now hosts the website.

5. Confirm the website from a visitor’s point of view

Finish the connection check in Wix. Its instructions allow up to 48 hours for propagation. Check both the bare name and www, and confirm HTTPS works. Open a published page that is not the homepage, try your contact form and test the mobile menu. A connection notification is useful, but these visitor checks show whether the site is ready to use.

Send a message to your business mailbox and reply to it. If you are replacing an older website, check the important old page addresses and configure appropriate redirects in your website platform. DNS sends visitors to a server; it does not preserve old page paths or rebuild your previous content.

Common questions about Wix and domain renewals

Do I need to transfer my domain to Wix? No. Pointing connects the website while the registration remains with NameUK. Can I edit my pages in NameUK? Edit the website in Wix; use the NameUK dashboard for your domain and its managed DNS.

Does registering a domain include a paid Wix plan or business mailbox? No. Budget for those subscriptions separately. If you later leave Wix, you can point the domain at another website, subject to that host’s setup requirements. Keeping a record of renewal dates and active providers makes a later move much easier.

A low first-year domain price is only part of the decision. Compare the annual renewal as well. NameUK’s affordable UK registration and renewal prices are shown below, with a separate link to the full current price list.
