The quick answer

Check the exact domain, its expiry date and the payment status before submitting another .co.uk renewal. A declined payment, a pending bank entry and a paid renewal awaiting confirmation are different situations. Use your registrar’s authenticated account and contact support when the outcome is unclear. The renewal is complete when the domain record confirms the extension, not merely when a bank entry appears.

Before you begin

  • Check the complete domain and current expiry date in the correct account.
  • Distinguish declined, pending and completed payment outcomes.
  • Do not submit another payment while an earlier result remains unclear.
  • Give support the order reference, time and displayed message without card details.
  • Confirm the extended expiry date after the renewal completes.

1. Start with the domain, not the payment notification

Open the registrar’s website using an address you trust and sign in. Find the exact domain, including its ending, and inspect the current expiry and renewal status. If you own matching .co.uk and .uk names, make sure the payment relates to the one that needs attention. Renewing one does not renew the other.

Note whether expiry is approaching, has passed or has already moved forward. That tells you the urgency and what evidence to look for. Do not assume a reminder email proves that your last payment failed: the message may have been prepared before the account changed. Compare it with the current record.

2. Classify the result before taking another action

A clear decline means the payment has not been accepted through that attempt. Read the displayed guidance, check the payment details privately and resolve any bank authentication request through its normal route. When the account clearly permits a new attempt, follow that route; do not send card numbers or authentication codes to support.

A pending bank entry is different. It can be an authorisation rather than a completed payment. A completed payment with no confirmed renewal needs the registrar to check the order and registration outcome. These are general distinctions, not a diagnosis of your particular bank entry. If the states disagree, pause duplicate submissions and ask for the existing attempt to be checked.

  • Declined: follow the payment error and authenticated account instructions.
  • Pending or unclear: establish the result of the existing attempt first.
  • Paid, renewal pending: ask support to check fulfilment against the order.
  • Expiry extended: retain confirmation and verify the correct domain.

3. Use the renewal route, not a new-registration basket

An existing .co.uk name is not bought again through an availability search. Use its renewal option with the provider currently managing it. Searching the same registered name will not convert it into a fresh discounted registration. Also, changing nameservers cannot repair a renewal payment.

NameUK currently uses a one-time renewal flow for eligible domains in the account. Do not rely on an assumption that an automatic payment will happen. Review the specific domain’s current options and amount. If an option is unavailable or the result is unclear, ask support for the next step rather than creating a different purchase.

4. Send a support report that can be acted on

A useful report identifies the domain, order or payment reference, approximate time, displayed error and the expiry date you currently see. Include whether your payment provider calls the transaction pending or completed. Share only the minimum relevant screenshot and obscure personal information that is not needed.

For example, a hypothetical owner sees a completed payment entry but the previous domain expiry. They report the existing order reference and ask whether its renewal has completed or is awaiting action. They do not make several more payments to see whether one works. This gives support a single clear transaction to investigate.

  • Exact domain and order reference.
  • Date and time of the attempt, including time zone if needed.
  • The message shown in the account.
  • Current expiry and payment status.
  • No full card number, password or security code.

5. Escalate promptly when expiry is close

Nominet’s renewal process includes stages after expiry, but those stages are not a safe payment deadline or a promise that every retail account can recover a domain in the same way. Use the registrar’s current instructions for the actual registration status. Avoid waiting for website or email failure before reporting the problem.

If the domain has already expired, state that clearly in your support request. Check the affected website and email separately after resolution. Restoring a registration and restoring every connected service are related but distinct outcomes; cached DNS or an unrelated hosting issue may still need attention.

The current registration and renewal budget

Register .co.uk for £9.99 for one year, with annual renewal currently £9.99. Or choose a new three-year .co.uk registration for £25.99. Check the selected name and term before payment. Future renewal prices can change.

The annual .co.uk renewal amount is shown below alongside new-registration prices. The initial three-year offer is for a new eligible registration; it is not a way to restart an existing domain as a cheaper renewal. Check the actual renewal order for your domain.

NameUK suits buyers who want a standalone domain, visible ongoing prices and dashboard DNS controls when our managed nameservers are active. This is our own recommendation for those needs, not an independent market ranking. Website hosting and mailboxes are separate services. Check the full name, selected term and final amount before paying.

6. Close the loop with the expiry date

Once the issue is resolved, verify the domain’s updated expiry and retain the renewal confirmation. Check the payment history for unresolved duplicate or pending entries and ask the relevant service about anything inconsistent. Do not infer a refund or a second renewal solely from a changing bank display.

Set a reminder well before the next expiry and keep the account’s contact email working. A clear ongoing renewal price helps budgeting, but the operational habit matters too: someone should own the task, verify completion and know how to get help before continuity is at risk.
